This was such a great idea for a forum topic that I thought it was a bit sad to see it languishing under its current listing. So, I am officially taking it upon myself to move this topic over here! I'm going to start this back up by copying & pasting the original posts here, and we can all take it from there!

...has just appropriated the rather large atrium adjacent to the main hall of the inn. There's room enough here for the unicorns, hippogriffs, griffins and Pegasi to wander. The dragons have access to the nearby caves. Firebirds and phoenixes and salamanders are welcome at the large hearth. And just across from the caves are the mer-people in the lake. All are welcome, from the small to the tall.

*Medusa notices Berkana peeking in the window of the Inn* Enter friend, and blessed be. Make yourself comfortable and let's talk about dragons and fairies and other such beings.

Since you put it like that, by all means. But normally a conversation about dragons etc would belong in Spirit Beings.

But the dragons strongly objected to being categorized with 'angels' and the centaurs refused to be 'spirit' at all. I thought the Inn was a nice compromise. ;-) (I won't even tell you what the Gorgons said. They can be sooo snooty.)

The word 'mythic', I think, is frequently confused with 'mythical'. Everyone knows that 'mythical' things don't exist, right? Maybe. 'Mythic' things and beings, on the other hand, do most definitely exist. They live on a different plane than humans, in a different yet accessible dimension than everyday so-called reality.

I'm not quite sure whether the Mythics existed first and moved to that other dimension as humans encroached. Or if the Mythics lived in that other place and humans 'found' them. Or if psychiatrists are right (*chuckle* THERE'S a concept!) and humans invented the Mythics.

The Mythics themselves are frequently amused at the human conceit that it was our imaginations that created them. I would, personally, much rather a dragon be amused at this notion than take offense. Socializing with dragons is tricky enough.

Intellectually, I can see where certain Mythical beings would be labelled as psychological or elemental constructs. My favorite Mythic is the Griffin. Little wonder since it is created from elements that I possess in astrological abundance. The head, front legs and wings of an eagle (air) and the body, hind legs and tail of a lion (fire).

I've recently brought a Griffin into my home. To the mundane world, he's a puppet. On the inner planes, he's just a youngster, a bit insecure, and anxious to learn to be a protector and guardian. The dragon in my life is amused by his gamboling enthusiasm. (My dragon spends a LOT of time being amused, and I am relieved by this. As the T-shirt says, Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.)

As a Sagittarian, I also have a connection to the horsey-er Mythics. Centaurs, of course. And horses with horns (single OR plural). And horses with fish tails. And, most particularly, as I'm a Medusa, horses with wings as it was from Medusa's blood that Pegasus was born.

Which Mythics do any of you identify with? Or have relationships with? Or prefer to spend time with? And why?

... as I step into the large, well-proportioned room. There is space indeed for all the critters to gather. And being a lover of critters common & strange, I look for a nice cozy spot to call home. I find one next to a wood sprite on a plump-looking couch and narrowly avoid being whisked away by a dragon tail as I make my way across the room. You know, he really should watch where he swings that thing!

I plop down and find the sprite engaged in a conversation with a phoenix and a very large griffin about the proper preening of feathers. How the sprite can consider herself an authority on feather care is beyond me, but she brazenly gives her companions her own two cents on the subject whilst expounding wildly with her arms.
I mush into the couch to make a proper butt-print. I can hang out here....

I must say, I agree with Medusa. Angels are not the best companions for dragons, and they give me the creeps. Remember that scene in Raiders Of The Lost Ark, where they're tied to the pole and the Bad Guy is opening the Ark. The air fills w/ angels that smile and float about. Suddenly, they turn into wretched skeletal forms and perform an aerial death dance, running the SS troops through, melting that one guy's face apart and exploding the other's head. That's kinda like my take on angels. They're creepy. I think they're too stern to hang out w/ fairies, who would probably make fun of them. The way they play their harps just doesn't mesh w/ a good fairy band.

If this does get moved to another topic, I'd like to see it in one where mythic critters can run about without being bothered by those pesky angels and spirit things. This would be a good first post for an area like that!

And hey, I have a bumper sticker with that saying on it!

...during a meditation. He thought it funny to torch me into a pile of bones. :-O Ha ha (yeah). I then found myself reforming in the center of a crystal in the cave and exploded from the tip. Later, after an aerial adventure, I took a nap under a tree on an isle, where I had a dream (within the meditation). The dragon came back to have a brief conversation. At the end, he sent out another flame burst that made me jump, though apparently visions in meditations can't scorch you. :-? He laughed as the vision faded and the meditation continued. All in all, an interesting experience! :-)
