Cleaning Day at Crone CornerSubmitted by skoschi on Tue, 09/09/2008 - 8:45pm.
The witch with the graying hair sets about cleaning up her house that she has abandoned so many years ago. It is hard word and requires both magick and elbow grease to clean up the dust of the years and send the scuttling spiders off to find new homes and the pack rats packing off to somewhere else. Midnight finds eating bread and cheese from her pack and drinking chamomile tea, from the last of her store. Too think she'd hoped to be munching on magick brownies and drinking lots of Fairy Wine tonight. A shock to see what the village has come too. She hears a sound like a knock at the door; she is a little apprehensive, for who is in the village besides herself? Wand at the ready, she opens the door, and on the mat sits a Calico Cat. The Cat and the Witch stare at one another. The Cat has eyes as green as money. Finally, to break the silence, the Cat says, "Do you intend to invite me in". "Hum, I like what you've done with the place." says Cat. 'Any more of that yummy cheese??" 'What is your name?' the Witch asks. "Phillip" says the Calico. "But I thought all calico's were female,' mused Kaliflower. "Nope. There are rare exceptions and us Blue Moon Kitties are extra powerful in Cat Magic" says Phillip. "Nice to have a fire again," he notes. So the Witch and the Cat become roomies and when it is time for sleep on the bed which is stuffed with clean, fresh heather, pulled on the moor, the Cat curls up at Kaliflower's feet and purrs, and that sound is the song that welcomes the Old Witch home. The night is dark and there is a chill in the air that speaks of the end of summer. Kaliflower sleeps the sleep of the just, or at least of the just-too-tired-to-move under a mountain of tartans and skins. The Full Moon shines in the cabin widow, and illuminates a room very different than it was a week ago. Kali has been busy. As a matter of fact, Kaliflower has been looting. In the village the houses and stores stand empty. She has taken skins and tartans from houses, and grain and dried food from stores, Paint and tread and needles and candles and pots and pans. She took a ring from one place that she suspects might be magick, and it is hidden safely under a loose floor board. She has kept a record of what was taken from each place, for one day she may have to take responsibility for her actions, and somehow make restitution. A few blue green lights appear in the room and fly about. The Pixies appear, and perch on the mantle and steal sugar from the brown earthenware bowl on the table. PhiilipCat wakes with a yawn and looks round the room with pricking ears. Yow! Pixies from Hell! He turns to the woman beside him. 'Wake Up, Granny! The Pixies are back!" And so, to the Cat's disapproval conversation began and plans were laid for the Morrow, when WillyWillow and Kaliflower were to go for a row on the Blue-eyed Boat, which Kali had left long ago after a beach party at the Boat Landing. Kali had worries about the boats viability and safety, but the leader of the Pixies said it was it great shape, and then the Pixies went out to make it so. The Blue-Eyed Boat was called so because of the eyes painted on either side of her prow. Kali had used a Doodle Spell to draw on the eyes and they looked like the eyes of a Disney Elephant, Bright Blue and with coy lashes that fluttered in a very flirty way at WillyWillow when he perched on the stern. Kali had magicked the eyes on the boat on the advice of a Crab whom she had once saved from a Boil. The Blue-Eyed Boat was no longer a blind and dumb boat, and she was well able to navigate and bring her cargo safely to land. Willywillow were going out on the Wide Water, to drift down the coast a little, and see if they could spy any other Witches, but although they explored the inlets and creeks, this did not happen. They were jeered at once or twice by pirates, but this was to be expected, but hindsight is 20/20 and the time to late to think of that now. It had been a long time since Kali had been on the River. After a time, they stopped sailing and started fishing, which is a talent that Kali was not so hot at, but her short and winged companion had great idea whee to guddle under the banks for trout. Kali hated guddling because once she had caught a snake in her bear hands. She doesn't like snakes one small bit. But now its away with the Pixies back home, and to build a big fire to roast the fish with. Fish, again grumble-hoh! she thought. But Cat wasn't it the least bothered by the repetition. Good night they all said, and the Piskies flew off to their mysterious home, laughing mightily. |

Goddess Gracious!! The night has passed and Kaliflower wakes up with a sneeze. The sunlight filters thru the dust motes and she sees the sparkle of fairies about the house! They're back...! I'm back! she thinks Suddenly, the Old Witch feels young again and she wiggles her toes and jumps out of bed. The house is cool and she lights a fire and goes to the garden in hopes that there are herbs to use for teas. Of course, she finds mint and the lemon verbena shrub that she planted as a little twig has grown to a out of control bush. The bees and the butterflies and the faries are busy in the garden. The smell of the lemon verbena and the late blooming wild honey suckle is so divine and the garden has fared well, even tho it is weedy, the the weeds are beautiful too, and the divas that live in them are like beautiful wild children, the witch knows that they are fey and quick to anger and she must begin work here gently. She asks permission from the diva of the lemon verbena bush, who remembers Kaliflower as the Gardener, and takes some of the herb for her tea. Chamonile is growing here and Goldenrod. In the stream at the bottom of the garden, a tibutary to the stream of consciousness, she finds that watercress still lingers and remembers that it is full of fish. A loud MRROW sounds and she turns to see the CAT sitting on a rock watching fish in the stream. "Shh" says the Kittyfisher..."I'm getting us some trout to break our fast." For a bit, Kali watches the Calico Cat posied above the sparking stream. The sunlight on the water is dazzling and a kingfisher sits above the stream in ...and APPLE TREE!! Yum, apples for breakfast too. There is so much to do, and so much to find out. The old witch has stopped feeling so old, and like an aura about herself she can see a faint impression of a younger witch and feels that younger energy.
"Today, today," she thinks. "I will finish checking out the garden right after breakfast. I will go down to the village and see if anyone is there at all. I will see if I can scavage seeds and other things I need. I will keep a tally of the things I take from where, in case I need to pay someone back. I will explore the gardens of others houses and see if there is anything I can use. Right now, I will climb that tree and get me some apples!" Quick a a fairy's wink, up she goes. she peels off her shirt to gather some apples in and when this is full, she lowers it down and plans to pick more today, to dry in the sun. From the trees height she looks over the garden...she sees the beehives at the edge of the village and is excited by the prospect that today she will have honey for her tea. And is that smoke or is it mist that she sees on the horizon?
